Brief: The Client wanted strong clean lines with good structure and a
restrained colour theme. Wide doors from the main family room /
kitchen meant the garden needed to provide a good year round vista
to bring the outside in. In addition, the lawn needed to be kept as
large as possible for the children, while areas for Harry the dog,
composting, vegetable plot and a new contemporary garden office.
Design: Sandblasted Indian sandstone edging around the lawn
provides a strong visual focus for the garden, linking the lower lawn
and planting with an enlarged terrace used for outdoor eating and
entertaining. The hardwood deck towards the rear provides a sunny
seating area in the north facing garden. Lollypop Prunus lusitanica
trees and clipped Box (Buxus hedging) provide a green canvas for
softer planting of perennials and bulbs in a palette of blue, green and
white.
