Brief: To restore and rejuvenate a recently rediscovered area of the garden to provide a key linking element between the renovated vegetable garden and the new swimming pool with its timber pool house and courtyard; to create four distinct areas with a sense of unity, in harmony with the architecture of the Georgian Rectory.

Design: The overgrown Conifer hedge bisecting the area is removed to enhance light, creating a sense of space. A line of pleached Pear trees within a wide border provides a structural axis, while a series of gravel paths connect the different areas. The herbaceous planting includes magenta, crimson and blue grass.
The vegetable garden beds are edged with Box hedging and the shapes of the beds are echoed in the adjacent secret garden, which has at its centre an ancient Walnut tree.
Fountain grass and Lavender, create an ephemeral ‘hedge’ between the secret garden and the pool area. Here a path leads to the pool house courtyard which has a central feature of formal Box balls planted in gravel, bordered with a raised bed with espaliered Apple trees and herbs, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme with accent planting in glowing oranges and deep purple flowering herbaceous perennials.
