Brief: Re-siting of the vegetable garden created an opportunity to re-develop an area of garden and “do something fun”.

Design: An exuberant planting scheme with bold colour and borders with strong curves was proposed to contrast with the linear design and restrained colour palette used in the rest of the garden. A mown grass path passes between a glade of white stemmed Birch - Betula utilis jacquemontii which stand at the gateway to this new garden area. In high summer the strategically positioned tall grasses and the curve of the beds help to create a semi hidden seating area at the centre of the planting- reached by a mown grass path. Other grasses combine with airy, flowing planting to create a colourful informal natural feel which changes and develops through out the seasons. Lush greens, blues and purples of spring and early summer give over to a riot of colour in high and late summer and on to the wonderful skeletons of a frosted winter morning providing interest from May to February.
