All new gardens need time to mature and new planting needs time to bed in and establish, and even low maintenance gardens will require some work. gardenmakers offer an excellent after care service, assisting clients with the care and development of the garden over both the short and longer term.

Follow up visit – Gardenmakers make a courtesy visit within the first few months of planting to check on progress and to make sure plants are properly settled in.

Detailed advice is given on watering – the timing and amount of water required will depend on the time of year of planting and the type of plants and conditions.

Maintenance – Gardenmakers discuss maintenance needs with clients, formulating a timetable to fit their requirements and budget. 

Where clients already have their own gardener or maintenance team or where the client undertakes the garden maintenance, Gardenmakers offer a range of visits designed to assess and monitor the garden’s progress, assist with the ongoing development and management of the garden.

Quarterly visits: Where clients require a more hands on approach:
Early spring – prepare the garden for spring, feeding, weeding, pruning, planting summer flowering bulbs
Mid summer – assess the garden at the peak flowering time, deadheading and ongoing maintenance.
Autumn – pruning and spring bulb planting
Winter – garden tidy up in preparation for winter 

Twice yearly visits:
Spring – prepare the garden for forthcoming growing season, pruning, feeding, summer bulb planting
Autumn – garden tidy up for winter, spring bulb planting, pruning

Ad hoc visits: where clients require only occasional advice regarding the garden’s development.

Gardenmakers also offer the following garden services:-
Bulb planting:  to add seasonal highlights to new and established borders and planters
Autumn planting for spring flowering bulbs such as Narcissus, Alliums and Tulips
Spring planting for summer flowering bulbs such as Lillium, Crocosmia and Gladiolus

Pruning: Shrub and small tree pruning to maintain shape and structure, in particular formative pruning for newly planted shrubs and trees. 

Tree Surgery – consultation on tree pruning, briefing and recommendation of qualified tree surgeons.

Garden coaching:  Many of our clients are recent converts to gardening and these sessions are designed to help identify plants and how to prune and maintain them and include general horticultural advice on how to keep the garden looking good.
