Brief: As part of the refurbishment of a Grade II listed property on the Portman Estate, an awkward space visible from the new apartments and the road required upgrading. The brief was to use as much planting as possible, providing a degree of privacy for the ground floor apartments, whilst keeping the planting relatively low maintenance.

Design: Inspired by the Georgian architecture and the Plane trees in nearby Bryanston Square, a geometric parterre was designed using Box hedging, Euonymus and table topped Plane trees to give year round interest. The squares of the parterre are edged with sawn and sandblasted Indian sandstone and gravel in complementary tones fill the rest of the courtyard, providing a crisp, clean look for both residents and passers by.
